Contented People and Equine Therapy

'Contented People’ - established by Alex Gulland, offers individuals the opportunity to experience the power of Equine Therapy.
This type of therapy utilises the concept that people's lives can be positively influenced and changed by spending quality time with horses.
Horses are excellent teachers in our journey to discover and understand ourselves. This is because they are herd animals, social by nature, and therefore have a heightened awareness of the rest of their herd members - which includes us!
The connection between horses and humans is the ‘magic’ of Equine Therapy and can be explained in neuro-scientific terms by the fact that there is a remarkable similarity between the limbic (emotional) brain of horses and that of humans.
They can therefore serve as both as our mirrors and our teachers in terms of emotional intelligence, congruence and relationships. Alex is also training to be a mental health counsellor at South Essex University - she is in the final year of a 4 year diploma course in Person Centred Counselling.
All clients are counselled by Alex Gulland, who successfully completed her Equine Facilitated (EFL) training with the LEAP Organisation in 2017.
LEAP is an organisational member of The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and adheres to the BACP Code of Ethics.
The LEAP Model is an integrative approach to EFL. It combines both reflective and active elements to provide clients with an holistic and therapeutic learning experience.
Alex Gulland - is a qualified LEAP Practitioner and also trained in Natural Horsemanship.
She carefully structures counselling and interactive exercises that use a combination of this Natural Horsemanship and the horse’s own subtle system of communication to assist clients.
To the left of this copy is a link to a film, created and produced by Alex, which explores how the Equine Therapy process works.
Over the last 10 years, the clinical team at LEAP have worked intensively with over 1,000 clients and have subsequently built a huge experiential and skill base in clinically using their model.
